The Beginning

This is the starting of my blog, I though it would be good to start out with my artists bio and artists statement. This information will show my way of thinking and to just tell you more about my self.

Artists Bio

Jennifer Tonello was born on December 5, 1990 in Canada. Jennifer uses her life experiences in relation to today’s society to create compelling, morbid artwork to generate new ways of thinking. She enjoys working with mixed media, paint and sculpture.  She’s currently finishing her studies at Sheridan College in Visual and Creative Arts Advanced Diploma. Her exhibitions include End of The Year Show at Sheridan College, April 2012. Jennifer inspires to be an art teacher in the future.  

Artist Statement

The environment that surrounds us today has reached a new level of expression. My artwork allows me to demonstrate my interpretation of today’s world. Found in my artwork are inspirations of everyday life, social issues, and the decay of the elements that often go unnoticed.   Working with these inspirations opens new pathways to showing what surrounds us is often missed by day-to-day life.

I create new concepts by using my knowledge of my generation combined with my “Canadian Redneck” background. My cultural background gives me a different perspective on life. It allows me to tap into my heritage and reaches back to a forgotten way of life that thrives only in the northern parts of Canada, away from the busy, complex lives of the materialistic society in the south.

I enjoy working with a variety of paint mediums but often work with oil. Printmaking was introduced to me and needs to be explored further. Mixed media is also the consuming monster in my world. Art installations that are open to the public are fascinating to me, as it relates to people’s reactions. Mixed media sculpture is also one of my interests. A combination of living and dead material mixed together, brings new life to my creations.
